A defining characteristic of the curriculum followed at Vishwa Bharati Public School is the way we focus on integrating our mission and values into every aspect of the school programme. We attempt to combine challenging experiences with academic rigor and creative opportunities keeping in mind the basic mission to educate individuals to take responsibility for shaping a better world.
The curriculum is holistic and focuses on development of multiple intelligences at all levels—analytical, practical, creative and emotional so as to nurture well balanced ,perceptive individuals who can make a difference to themselves and others.
We believe that an ambitious curriculum cannot be confined to the four walls of the class room .Therefore, equal importance is given to both curricular and co- curricular components which are skillfully interwoven and integrated to give each child a rich experience. Activities such as sports, field trips and excursions, community services, life skills , fine arts , environmental sensitivity, love for languages and technology –all are essential part of the curriculum.
The focus on scholastic and co scholastic programme of the school for different age groups is as follows:
Play school –Blossoms:
The play school provides a non formal, warm , natural , friendly and aesthetic ambience where children grow, learn , explore through fun filled activities . The focus is on a socialization process which includes soft skills , confidence building and core values of living together ,accepting the peer group and mutual caring and sharing.
Preprimary classes ( LKG and SKG):
A child centered , activity based methodology focusing on social, emotional, physical and fine motor skills along with an extended support for writing and reading readiness as a stepping stone to enter in formal school environment.
Lower Primary ( classes 1-3)
Children are exposed to a more formal environment of classroom where basic skills in English, Hindi, Number work, and Environmental Sciences are introduced . The tutorial system ensures that the children identify themselves with one teacher who acts as a mentor and care taker and can identify individual strengths and weaknesses of the child. The teaching methodology is made interesting through a wide range of fun and play activities and hands on experiential learning.
Upper Primary ( classes 4-5):
At this stage the tutorial system is gradually replaced by subject teachers . Apart from the teaching of two languages and Mathematics ,the Environmental Sciences becomes more pronounced as General Science and Social Sciences. A third language is introduced at class 5 level. The curriculum is an extension and enhancement of the basic skills taught at the lower primary level and prepares children for entry into a more defined syllabus of the middle school.
Options are provided to expose children to other international languages such as French and Cambridge ESOL( English for Students of Other Languages)- YLE certification
Middle level( classes 6-8):
The Middle School programme is structured to meet different intellectual and developmental needs of students .The core interdisciplinary skills acquired in Primary classes are refined as subject specialist teachers take over to instruct them in the fundamental subject specific skills essential for entry into the Secondary level. A wide range of clearly defined subjects are introduced at this level such as English, Hindi, Sanskrit /French, Mathematics, Social Science and Science and Technology along with other co scholastic subjects .Students are enabled to develop in all relevant areas from physical, technical, creative, numerate and deductive, rational and experimental, to empathetic and evaluative. The ability to communicate in more than one language is a key goal. They are thus stretched and pushed through an experience that is challenging both academically and socially through a positive and caring environment.
Secondary level (classes 9-10th ):
The Secondary school curriculum aims at further enhancing learning processes in both scholastic and co scholastic areas . Academic skills become more pronounced through specialized teaching of subjects viz:
Students are assessed for their proficiency levels in different subjects through a continuous process of engaging them in a wide range of activities which test their understanding, reasoning, problem solving, evaluative skills through class and home assignments, periodic tests, hands on practical experiences , projects, quizzes, wall magazines, field work etc. Thus , a student is taken through a challenging environment that helps discover his innate talent and aptitude so that he can make a wise choice of subjects at the Senior Secondary Level.
Senior Secondary level ( classes 11th -12th ):
This stage acts as a bridge between school and college .It prepares students for undergraduate courses offered by various universities and professional colleges as per individual’s aptitude and career preferences immediately after 12th class.
The school offers two streams of courses viz ; Science and Commerce .
